68 year-old pedestrian killed in hit and run in Co. Tipperary

Storm Ophelia has claimed a second life as it moves across the country.

The death occurred in Cahir, Co Tipperary at around 12.30 when a man in his early thirties died in the course of clearing a fallen tree.

The man was seriously injured with a chainsaw.

Earlier a woman in her fifties died when the car she was travelling in was struck a falling tree at Aglish , West Waterford. A woman in her seventies was left non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are advising all persons to stay indoors and not to venture out.
