With the price of petrol and diesel reaching its highest level since 2015, Donegal drivers are seeing a rise of up to 5c per litre at the pumps within the last month.

The Donegal Democrat has been monitoring prices in the county over the last week and noted the cheapest fuel prices were €1.34.9 for petrol and €1.24.9 for diesel.

The most expensive fuel was €1.37.9 for petrol and €1.27.9 for diesel.

The majority of stations monitored ranged between €1.34.9 and €1.35.9 for petrol, with diesel ranging between €1.24.9 to €1.26.9.

According to the AA the cost of fuel has reached its highest level since late 2015 as the average price of a litre of petrol rose by 4.9c and diesel by 5c within the last month.

The AA’s analysis shows that the average price of a litre of petrol now sits at 136.3c per litre with a litre of diesel costing an average of 126.9c.

“While motorists were perhaps bracing themselves for an increase in fuel costs early in 2017 as oil prices have steadily risen in recent months, the latest price rise represents the largest single month increase in prices since March 2015,” Conor Faughnan, Director of Consumer Affairs at AA Ireland highlighted.
