Donegal teenager awarded €19,000 for injuries sustained two years ago

A payment of €19,000 has been made to a Donegal teenager who received soft tissue injuries in a road traffic collision in Letterkenny when she was 13-years-old.

The girl, who is now 15, was injured in the collision with occurred at Oatfield roundabout in Letterkenny in December 2014.

Letterkenny Circuit Court heard she was a front seat passenger in a car that was rear ended by a vehicle.

The teenager was taken to hospital suffering from a sore shoulder and sore neck. She was crying and was detained for several hours and charged with painkillers.

An x-ray showed she had no bone injuries, but she complained of pain in her chest had soft tissue injuries to her shoulder and neck. She also experienced a constant ache.

The injuries restricted her participation in physical activities and suffers ongoing difficulties for 17 months, her barrister told the court. She also suffered from headaches and soreness.

Judge John O’Hagan approved the payment of €19,000 and congratulated the legal team for the very short time the cases took to commence and finish. “It shows things can be done quickly. It is a very good settlement,” he said.
