Coláiste Cholmcille in Ballyshannon to host a Christmas Fair

Santa and his TY elves have been very busy lately in Coláiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon, preparing lots of wonderful gifts for the school's very first Christmas Fair, this Friday (Dec. 9th), in aid of the Make A Wish charity.

Fairy doors, bath bombs, handmade copperwire bracelets, wooden Christmas ornaments, baked goods, wreaths, Christmas cards, Christmas logs, home made chutneys, decorated candle holders, personalised Christmas baubles, jars of sweets, bottles of hot chocolate, M&M jars, and much more will be on sale in the in the Mercy Hall from 10am to 4pm.

Local businesses will also take part, such as Pillbox, Dorrian's Chemist, Toner's Chemist and Barry Sweeney. There will be lots of other entertainment on offer too, with Santa's Elves singing and dancing throughout the day.

One of the most highly anticipated events of the day is the Seasonal Sponge-Throwing, which involves students throwing soaking wet sponges at teachers!

All proceeds from the Coláiste Cholmcille Christmas Fair will go to Make-A-Wish, the children's charity which raises money to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The CCBS TYs felt that as Christmas is such a happy time for most, it would be nice to take time to those who are less fortunate.

All 84 Transition Year students have been involved in the Christmas Fair, with around 40 First Year students also taking stalls.

The Enterprise teachers Ms. Conlon and Ms. Y. Gallagher hope the fair will  equip students with enhanced capacity to generate ideas and the skills to implement them. To that end, students have been working very hard for the last six weeks, brainstorming ideas, costing raw materials, building product concepts and prototypes, before going into full production. There will be awards on the day for the best product and the best display.

The Mercy Hall will be transformed into Santa's Grotto for the day, and Santa is expected to drop in for a visit at some point too! Come along any time from 10am-4pm and enjoy the festive spirit as well as all of the fine products available. Visit the 'Coláiste Cholmcille Christmas Fair' Facebook page for more product images and pre-orders.
