The RNLI, Coast Guard and rescue helicopter came to the aid of a man and three children off Inis Oirthear near Gola Island yesterday. The group were out on body boards when they got into difficulties and the alarm was raised at around 3.20pm.
Malin Head Coast Guard tasked the Arranmore RNLI lifeboat, the Lough Swilly RNLI lifeboat which was in the area on an exercise, Bunbeg Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Sligo 118 rescue helicopter to the scene.
Bunbeg CG was the first to arrive. Two of the bodyboarders made their way back to shore but the others had to be winched to safety. No one was injured in the incident.
Also yesterday afternoon, concerns were raised when two jet skis were found on the beach at Ballyshannon but the owners returned a short time later.
