Irish Water has issued a statement thanking customers in Donegal for conserving water over the Bank Holiday weekend following a contamination incident in Ballyshannon.
The company thanked “the people of Donegal, particularly customers in Ballyshannon and Bundoran and visitors to the county, for adhering to the utility’s pleas for water conservation over the busy August Bank Holiday”.
The public’s support and co-operation was instrumental to ensuring that there were no known water outages over the weekend following a contamination incident which occurred at the Ballyshannon water source on Friday, the statement continued.
Irish Water and Donegal County Council are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the contamination which triggered the automatic shutdown of borehole sources that feed raw water to the Ballyshannon Water Treatment Plant.
The incident did not result in contaminated water entering the treatment plant or the network and there was no risk posed to public health.
