More than 100 health professionals attended an Immunisation Conference at the Lakeside Centre, Ballyshannon, last Wednesday.
The event was hosted by the HSE's Community Health Organisation (CHO) Area 1 (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan & Sligo) and the National Immunisation Office (NIO),
Those attending learned about current and future immunisation schedules and gained valuable insights into current international and national best practice.
Dr. Brenda Corcoran, NIO Consultant in Public Health Medicine said, “All childhood vaccines are free of charge to every child in the country.
Early childhood vaccines are given by GPs and booster vaccines are provided by HSE School vaccination teams in Cavan and Monaghan while GPs administer most of these vaccines in Donegal, Lei trim and Sligo”.
Mr John Hayes, Chief Officer of CHO 1 acknowledged “the continued commitment and hard work by GPs, practice nurses, community medicine and public health doctors and nurses in achieving and maintaining the recommended World Health Organisation 95% vaccine uptake, which is vital to ensuring these preventable diseases are controlled and closer to eradication”.
