Tribute artists to Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley worked up a storm in aid of a good cause at the ‘Stepping Stone’ in Dungloe recently.
The entertainment was organised by Beatrice Farrelly, who has helped raise over €10,000 for charity through the Elvis Club. The recent event raised €2,500 for Eva McCafferty,3, from Crolly.
Eva is in a wheelchair and she will travel to Temple Street Hospital in April to have a feeding peg inserted into her stomach. People traveled from across the Rosses and Gaoth Dobhair to be present for the charity event.
One of the most poignant moments of the evening was when Ciarán Houlihan sang “The Wonder of You,” an Elvis song for Eva who will be four in April.
The night began with David Bishop paying tribute to Johnny Cash. He got the crowd going with “Folson Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire,” and “Forty Shades of Green.”
People traveled from across the country to attend the event. The Elvis Club has attracted people from overseas to the events which take place in the ‘Stepping Stone.’
Ciarán Houlihan has appeared on more than once occasion at the club’s events much to the delight of Beatrice who is a huge Elvis fan. Ciarán is well known for his talent as an Elvis tribute artist, having won the European Championships in 2012. His recent performance was truly amazing and those who were present at the packed function were blown away by his performance.
His powerful rendition of “In the Ghetto” was followed by shoe-tapping songs which brought everyone to their feet.
People of all ages are now looking forward to the next event which Beatrice has planned for September. Beatrice would like to thank everyone who contributed to the evening.
