An Bord Pleanála (ABP) has overturned a decision by Donegal County Council to refuse planning for a five-turbine wind farm at Derrykillew near Ballyshannon.
ABP has granted planning permission subject to 20 conditions. The applicant, Derrykillew Community Windfarm Ltd, had appealed the decision.
The council had rejected the proposals for reasons that included “the unacceptable visual impact on landscape character and visual amenity on the Lower Lough Erne and Croagh and Garvary River areas”. ABP found that subject to compliance with the conditions “it would be acceptable in terms of impact on the visual amenities or landscape character of the area, would not seriously injure the amenities of property in the vicinity, would not be prejudicial to public health and would not lead to the creation of a traffic hazard”.
