Independent Tim Jackson said he was delighted with his performance in the Donegal constituency. Jackson drew over 3,568 first preferences according to the first tally, with 5 per cent.
Speaking after the tally came in, he said: “I am delighted to be honest because we came out of nowhere and we have picked up nearly 3,000 votes at this stage so for me that is a result first time round and can I build on that if I want. It shows you that there is an appetite out there for these policies that we were proposing.”
He said his performance matched the reaction he was getting on the doorsteps during the campaign. He said this (tally) result gives him a platform to build on if he decides to run again. "I think this reflects the polls which put me at 5%. It's a sign that there that is an huge appetite out there among the public for change and for new faces and it is a good time to offer that."
