Bundoran continued their good start to the league with a win at home to Cloughaneely at Gaelic Park on Saturday evening.
A goal seven minutes from the end of normal time put Bundoran on their way and they closed out the game in style, going seven clear before a last gasp goal put a better look on the scoreboard for Cloughaneely.
The visitors got off to a whirlwind start with a goal from Paul Sweeney in the opening minute. Sweeney also added the second goal for Cloughaneely but they still trailed by a point at the break as Bundoran hit back.
Michael McEniff got the vital first half goal for the home side and also contributed two points while Tommy Hourihane (2), Christy Keaney and Dara Hoey also hit points as Bundoran led by 1-6 to 2-2 at the break.
The Cloughaneely points came from Denis Boyle and Paul Sweeney. It was Sweeney’s last game for the club as he heads to England this week in search of employment.
The second half was a really nip and tuck affair until Bundoran’s second goal. The sides were level on five occasions as they traded points - Shaun Maguire, Denis Boyle (four frees) for Cloughaneely and Diarmuid Spratt, Christy Keaney, Gary Clancy and Michael McEniff for Bundoran.
The vital goal came when a Clancy shot for a point dropped short and Tommy Hourihane nipped in to flick to the net. Hourihane added a point and even though Conor McGee responded, three more Hourihane points put Bundoran in command before Kevin Mulhern had a late goal for the visitors.
It was a good win for Charlie O’Donnell’s men but a late injury to the impressive Shane McGowan will be a worry for them.
