Four Masters are on the march again in the Senior Reserve Championship as they eased past St. Michael’s on Saturday evening in Ballybofey.
Four Masters 1-11
St. Michael’s 1-5
Physicially stronger Masters were the better side and won all the key battles and an interesting statistic to emerge from the game was all but one of their 11 points were scored from play.
Birthday boy Benny Cassidy, who celebrated his 37th birthday on Saturday, along with Gareth Britton and Gavin Bennett carried the big scoring threat up front.
Kevin McBrearty and Charlie Gallagher, despite the best efforts of Lorcan McDaid lorded midfield for three quarter of the tie.
Ciaran Cassidy turned in a man of the match performance at centre half-back and capped a truly outstanding performance with a super goal.
For St. Michael’s Oisin Langan, Patrick Stewart, Chris McElhinney, Lorcan McDaid and Neil Toye were the standout players.
Four Masters got off to a steady start to lead 0-4 to 0-1 by the 15 minute mark.
And they built on that to go in 1-5 to 0-2 in front at half-time. Ciaran Cassidy scored the goal on 19 minutes when he powered through from midfield to drill past Josie Gallagher.
Oisin Langan with two sweetly struck frees scored St. Michael’s two first half points.
Kevin McBrearty, Emmet Doogan and Gareth Britton extended the Masters lead on the resumption to 1-8 to 0-3 by the 45th minute.
Oisin Langan reduced the margin to seven before Patrick Stewart cheekily chipped Gallagher for a super goal on 46 minutes and reduced the margin to four points and shortly after Coalan McGee pointed to reduce the margin to three.
But Masters regrouped and closed the game out with three late points for a place in the last four once again.
