Sean MacCumhaill’s will play in Division Two of the League again next year following Saturday’s relegation victory over Cloughaneely.
Sean MacCumhaill 0-14
County man Martin O’Reilly, who scored eight points, led the MacCumhaill’s charge from the off as the locals laid the platform for their victory in the opening half.
They led by seven points, 0-9 to 0-2, at half-time with O’Reilly accounting for four of the points with his brother Steven, Brian Lafferty, Owen Wright, Seamus McGinty and Darren O’Leary also raising white flags.
Shaun McGarvey and Sean Maguire scored the first half points for an understrength Cloughaneely who were short a number of key personnel. The Cloughaneely starting 15 contained eight U-21s.
Shaun McGarvey, reduced the gap on the resumption shortly before the Cloughaneely marksman and his marker Andrew McCloskey received their marching orders after picking up second yellow cards.
With O’Reilly leading the charge once more the locals were still seven in front by the three quarter mark. And that advantage was out to eight with six minutes remaining.
Cloughaneely did put on a late spurt and Denis Boyle had a penalty well saved on 56 minutes before Declan McGarvey converted from the spot, after Kevin Mulhern was hauled down.
That was on 60 minutes and in the end served only to give the final score sheet a more respectable look aout it.
