Four Masters and Aodh Ruadh will contest the Southern Minor Championship final after Aodh Ruadh defeated Dungloe on Monday night while Four Masters proved too strong for Ardara last week.

Aodh Ruadh had just a point to spare over Dungloe in Dunkineely with goals from David McGurrin and Colm Kelly, but it took late points from Eamonn McGrath to see them through by 2-9 to 1-11

The final is fixed for Bundoran tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 7.30 p.m.

sIn the first semi-final last week, Four Masters proved convincing winners over Ardara by 3-9 to 1-4.

The Four Masters Minors put in a fantastic performance to overpower Ardara in this Divisional semi final played in Dunkineely. A good start laid the platform for the victory with Four Masters much the better team in the first half. A good opening point from Dillon Ward in the first minute set the tone, with Four Masters dominating all over the pitch early in the game. Points from Dillon Ward (20m free), Caolan Loughney, and Jason Carr soon followed before the first goal from Emmett Doogan. A good ball in from Darren Doherty was quickly off loaded to Doogan, who blasted low into the corner. With Ardara struggling, the Donegal Town men kept the scoreboard ticking over. A well worked team goal then followed with Pauric Carr scoring it. After catching a high ball into the left corner, Carr then drove to goal, gave a quick one two with Patrick Reid and finished past the defender on the line. With Ardara all at sea, the boys continued to attack at every opportunity, a high ball into the square from the left ended with Patrick Reid fisting the ball into the net after it was kept in by Emmett Doogan. Ardara then got up the field to get their first score from a good team move. The half time score read 3-09 to 0-01 to Four Masters.

The second half started after a torrential downpour which lasted the whole second half which made the playing conditions very difficult. Ardara to their credit upped their performance in the second half and started to bring the score closer. Hitting two in the opening ten minutes gave them hope, with Ardara competing a lot better over the field. A fisted point from Kevin Breslin was Four Masters only score in the second half with over fifteen minutes left. Ardara reduced the margin with a well taken goal but it proved too little too late. The final score read Four Masters 3-9 Ardara 1-5.

Well done to all the players and management who have put in a huge effort over the last couple of years. Tony Cornyn, joint Manager of the Four Masters Minor Team, with Michael Breslin, commented, “we are all absolutely delighted. This is a huge victory for the team and highlights the massive effort that all the lads have put in on the training field and in each and every game they have played. This is a great team and their efforts and dedication are paying off”.
