Gardaí are appealing for information on an aggravated burglary at the home of a 75-year-old woman at the weekend.
Three men entered the woman’s house in an isolated area at Ranny near Kerrykeel at around 10pm on Saturday.
The men spent around half an hour in the house but left empty handed.
Garda inspector Michael Harrison described the incident as “a very evil and violent crime”. He told the Donegal Democrat that the woman had undergone a terrifying experience and had been left badly shaken. “As a community we should not tolerate crimes like this and we are appealing for information to stop these thugs doing it again,” he said.
The woman was held during the 30-minute ordeal and one of the men was particularly aggressive, he said.
The men were not masked but had jumpers pulled up over their faces. The three men knocked on the door of the house at a time when the woman had been expecting visitors.
They are believed to have been in their late teens or early 20s and had local accents.
Gardaí believe a fourth may have been waiting in a vehicle.
