Donegal Waterbus secures foreshore lease
by Matt Britton
There was a sense of accomplishment this week as the board of Directors of the Donegal Town Enterprise Scheme (DTES Ltd.) joined together for the signing and sealing of the Waterbus Foreshore lease.
The directors were joined by their solicitor Eunan Gallagher of Gallagher, McCartney Solicitors who formally witnessed the proceedings.
Malachy Sweeney a past director of DTES Ltd was also present for the lease but due to other commitments, another former director, Patsy Kelly was unable to attend.
The Board of Directors had specifically invited both former directors to attend to acknowledge their initiative and efforts in applying for and pursuing the foreshore lease with the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
The members of DTES Ltd. say they would also like to extend their appreciation to Sean Perry of the Tanaiste's office for his invaluable assistance in securing this lease.
A spokesperson for the DTES Ltd said, "It is important to record that both Patsy Kelly and Billy Bustard were the instigators of a Waterbus project for Donegal Town.
"Their search for a suitable vessel began in the early 1990's and it is a credit to the likes of Patsy, Billy and Malachy who pioneered this project and their successors who have now secured the future of a debt-free waterbus enterprise."
