Arranmore RNLI rescued an injured fisherman from a boat 12 miles west off Tory Island this afternoon.
The RNLI and Sligo rescue helicopter were called to assist the man, who was on board a Greencastle-based boat, at 3.30pm, a spokesperson for Arranmore RNLI told the Democrat.
It was intended to airlift the man, whose injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, to hospital. However, the rescue helicopter developed mechanical difficulties and had to return to base.
The man, who is in his mid-40s, was transferred to the Arranmore lifeboat.
He was brought to shore at Burtonport, at around 5pm, where an ambulance was waiting to bring him to Letterkenny General Hospital.
The RNLI spokesperson said the crew are hopeful that the man will make a full recovery.
