Noel Daly, chairman of the HSE’s North West Hospital Group, which includes both Letterkenny General and Sligo Regional Hospitals, has resigned.
In a brief statement released this morning, he said: “I have chosen to resign as chair of the West/North West Hospitals Group as I do not want my personal and professional reputation or the reputation of the group to be compromised in any way.”
He pointed out that the role was a voluntary one and he praised the board’s work.
An HSE spokesperson said he would not be doing any interviews.
Earlier this year, an HSE audit found that the agency had breached its own financial regulations when it appointed a consultancy firm that is part owned by Mr Daly to conduct an audit of maternity services in the North West.
Sinn Féin raised concerns in the Dail and Seanad about possible conflict of interest.
The party is putting Health Minister James Reilly to explain his role in the appointment of Mr Daly as chair of the NW Hospitals Group.
