A new car-park for the Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) was officially opened yesterday, providing more than 220 parking spaces for LYIT students, faculty, staff and visitors.
Traffic lights, a pedestrian crossing and a new traffic management system for turning vehicles have been introduced at the busy Port Road location between the main entrance to LYIT, on one side of the road, and the new car park on the other.
Paul Hannigan, president of LYIT, said the traffic lights are being synchronised to allow for a proper traffic flow at all times, and for the safety of LYIT staff and students.
The LYIT president said that the car park has been constructed in such a way to allow for capital development on the site without disrupting available parking. As a result, he said, if funding were to become available for further capital development at LYIT, “we’re ready to go”.
