A number of US Senators met with elected representatives from both Ireland and Northern Ireland last week to discuss the Immigration Reform Bill that is currently being considered by the US Government.
All party lobbying for the bill took place in both Leinster House and Stormont last week and it is hoped that an all-party delegation will travel to Washington DC to intensify the lobbying campaign.
Bundoran Town Councillor Mick McMahon says the bill is “the biggest and most important piece of legislation in the history of emigration and the best chance ever for the undocumented Irish”.
The 50-70,000 undocumented Irish in America, he added, cannot return home for family events such as weddings and funerals. The lobby group are asking everyone in Ireland to contact their elected representatives and any influential contacts in the USA expressing support for the bill and requesting their support for it as well.
