A Drumkeen father of five and grandfather was laid to rest on Saturday, after dying from injuries sustained in a tragic tree-cutting accident.
The tragic accident occurred just days after a man in his 20s lost his life in an unrelated road traffic accident a few miles away.
Mourners filled Convoy Reformed Presbyterian Church on Saturday afternoon for the funeral of Norman Frizzell (66), who died on Thursday.
Mr. Frizzell had gone to cut trees on lands near his Augheygault home at about 12.30pm on Thursday, and was found by his daughter about two hours later. The well-known and well-respected man was using a chainsaw and it is believed he was injured fatally while engaged in tree-cutting. Emergency services responded, but it is understood that he died at the scene.
It is understood that gardaí are treating the incident as a tragic accident and an investigation has been undertaken to determine exactly how Mr. Frizzell died.
The local community has been left stunned by the news. A local man who knew Mr. Frizzell from his garage called him, “a wild nice man”.
He described Mr. Frizzell as a hard-working man who kept long hours at the garage and always put other people first.
