A cheque for €4,000 presented to the GRASP (Greater Awareness & Responsibility of Suicide Prevention) Life Foundation at a reception in Finn McCool’s, Ballyshannon last Friday night.
The funds were proceeds of the third Annual Mark Reynolds Memorial Motorbike Run, which was held on Sunday, July 29th.
Molly Reynolds, the late Creevy man’s mother, said at the presentation: “The amount raised through the bucket collection during the run, the raffle and donations, came to €3,970 and Finn McCool’s kindly topped the amount up by €30 to a grand total of exactly €4,000.
“These monies will very much assist our own people, as I understand from the McTernans that up to 65% of calls to GRASP are coming from South Donegal.
“Thanks to Jason Kelly and later Road Angels for music on the night of the run, to everyone who helped in any way, especially the bikers, marshalls and collectors, prize sponsors, the Grimes family for preparing food , the clergy who blessed the event and An Garda Siochana, and, of course, James Loughlin and his merry men.
“As always we look for your support to make this event a success and raise as much money as we can for the local suicide awareness charities and I am very proud to say that once again we have been very surprised at the level of support that has been forthcoming in the middle of a deep recession. Despite the fact that we changed to a week later than other years, we still managed to clash with several other worthy events on the day and the weather was not in our favour, either. However, people are as ever, generous and supportive and many do so to honour Mark’s memory, and for whatever reason they do it, we are eternally grateful.”
