Bundoran Town Council has approved funding of €18,270 for community groups in the town.
The allocations were announced at the monthly meeting of the Council and unanimously approved. Cllr. Elizabeth McIntyre initially proposed that, instead of allocating the entire sum available, €3,270 should be held back for contingencies, such as the Christmas lights.
A discussion ensued in which a number of councillors, including Florence Doherty and Diarmaid Doherty, said they thought that would be unfair, as the process for applying for the funding under the scheme had been advertised and so only those who had applied before the deadline should be considered. Town Clerk, Joe McNulty, confirmed that, although in previous years it had been traditional to keep a contingency sum, this had not been done last year. At that point, Cllr. McIntyre withdrew her proposal and the entire amount was allocated as follows: Realt na Mara CLG €3,000; Bundoran St Patrick’s Day Committe €2,870; Bundoran Tidy Towns €2,600; Bundoran Bord na nÓg €1,500; Bundoran Boat and Sea Angling Club €1,200; Bundoran Boxing Club €1,000; Bundoran Ladies GAA €1,500; Bundoran Community Childcare €700; Bundoran Community Games €700; Western Waves Community Radio €400; Ballyshannon Bundoran Neighbourhood Youth Project €1,450; Bundoran Transition Town €750; and Magh Éne History Society €600.
