There are few areas in Ireland that can boast such a wealth of internationally renowned musical talent as Gaoth Dobhair. The likes of Enya, Clannad, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Altan to name but a few. Then Brendan de Gaillí has danced his way around the world with Riverdance. To celebrate this great talent the Luinneog Lúnasa Festival will take place again this year. It will be held from the 8th to the 11th of August, and this is the fourth year for it to be held.
There will be a feast of music, and dancing over the weekend. There will be concerts featuring, Máire Brennan, Mairéad Ní Dhomhnaill and her sister, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill and Laoise Kelly and the local talented group An Crann Óg. Also taking place will be Tionól na bPiobairí Uilinn with Uilleann Piping Workshops, A Workshop of Interpretation of Songs and Airs, Piping Recital with local piping students, as well as informal piping and singing sessions.
There will be also set and ceilí dancing. The launch and showing of “An Píobaire Mór” a documentary of the renowned Gaoth Dobhair Piper, Tarlach Mac Suibhne who lived at Lunniagh, Derrybeg. This is a flavour of some of the events taking place during the musical weekend. This Festival celebrates the musical and cultural heritage of Gaoth Dobhair and it is the place to be that weekend.
