Irish Rock Legends – HORSLIPS are among the headline acts appearing at the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival in Ballyshannon, from Thursday 31st May to Sunday 3rd June 2012.
Three years ago, Horslips made a hugely successful return to the O2 in Dublin and the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, and are now set to make a landmark return to honour the Late Great Rory Gallagher in the town where the Blues Guitar legend was born. Horslips are no strangers to County Donegal, but have not played the County in over 25 years and are certain to have a capacity attendance at the Rory Gallagher Festival Big Top on Sunday 3rd June 2012, tickets on sale at www.goingtomyhometown.com
In advance of the bands appearance in Ballyshannon, Horslips have recently re-released their 1973 classic album ‘Happy To Meet, Sorry to Part’. It is ironic that legendary ‘Rolling Stomes’ Guitarist – Mick Taylor and his band are also appearing at the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2012 in Ballyshannon as Horslips first recorded that same 1973 album in the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. This album showcased their diverse range and contained tracks of many different styles including rock mixed with traditional, pure traditional, folk and progressive hard rock.
Horslips’ headline appearance in Ballyshannon will be a first Irish Festival performance for the legendary band since reforming in 2009 with Johnny Fean, Barry Devlin, Jim Lockhart and Charles O’Connor certainly set to evoke many memories of great Irish Festival appearances by the band in the 1970’s & 1980’s. Horslips will perform at the Rory Gallagher Festival Big Top in Ballyshannon on Sunday 3rd June 2012, with other headline acts performing at the Festival including Mick Taylor formerly of Rolling Stones, Dr. Feelgood, Sinnerboy, Pat McManus Band (ex. Mama’s Boy’s), Laundromat from Holland, leading UK Bluesman - Larry Miller and his band and legendary Donegal Rocker – Johnny Gallagher & Boxtie.
More than 12,000 visitors are expected to attend the Festival that honours the Late Rory Gallagher in the town of his birth, with over 30 acts performing on 15 stages over the 4 days of the Festival that has been recognised as one of the best in Ireland at the National Festival Awards 2010 & 2011.
