Tír Chonaill AC hosted their annual Remembrance Run 5k road race and walk, despite the cold temperatures, last Sunday morning.
The morning had freezing fog and very slippy roads in and around Donegal Town.
The local committee even considered calling off the annual Remembrance run but then the sun broke through shortly after 10 and a quick thaw took place.
A large group completed the 5k - the planned 10k to be run in conjunction with the 5k was cancelled. It was not an occasion for racing - more for taking part, chatting and remembering. A very youthful Paul Ward was first home.
Thanks to club officials/members for setting up the course, stewarding, providing a very welcome cuppa and goodies afterwards, to the Gardaí and to Brendan and Teresa McDaid for chip timing.
Recent successes
Club athletes had numerous successes on the road and at recent cross country events. At the Donegal Masters CC both our men and women's teams won team category prizes while at the Donegal juvenile 4 x 500m cross country relays the Girls U-16 and U-14 teams won silver medal, U-10 Girls finished 3rd, U-12 Boys filled 5th and Under 12 Girls 7th - well done to all.

Twenty-two club members successfully completed the recent Dublin City Marathon. Many conquered the distance for the first time, others completing double digit finishes, more getting PB's and the one Terry Hughes from Belleek, running from his home to Dublin and then completing the distance.
Meanwhile the launch of the Cara Bundoran Challenge 2017 took place in the refurbished Bundoran Community Centre last Thursday night.
Race sponsor Canice Nicholas of Cara Pharmacies, race director Paddy Donoghue and (race partner) Tír Chonaill AC Chairman David Doherty revealed details of the Challenge which will take place on the weekend of Friday, 10th, Saturday, 11th, and Sunday, 12th March 2017.
Tír Chonaill Athletic Club will host their annual awards on Saturday evening at 6pm in the Abbey Hotel Donegal Town.
It's an opportunity for club members to recognise the numerous achievements across all aspects of the club from juvenile, junior, senior, masters, fit4life, C25k, coaching, past members and administration.
