Just over two years open now The Waterfront Hotel in Dungloe was the venue for this Irish Hotels Federation Annual Banquet on Tuesday night last and yet this this latest gem in the Donegal tourism product exuded all the finesse and style that one would associate with some of the more classical and longer established hotels in the country.
Guests arrived at the hotel in the early evening to be greeted by copious amounts of champagne, the great new range of Irish gins and local whiskies.
As if this was not enough, around 12 local musicians provided a great touch of this welcome with the very best of traditional music.
This was a theme that continued throughout the evening where the hotel had provided a showcase for the very best of local talent.
It was a night of limited speeches and “talking shop” - this was an occasion for those in the hospitality business to get out there and enjoys a little pampering themselves and the Waterfront delivered on all fronts.
This year the event chose a charity as a beneficiary and their choice could not have been more deserving. Cancer is something that has probably touched everybody in the crowded banqueting suite and all money raised went to the new Cancer Care West facility recently opened in Letterkenny.
Moya Brennan who is a patron of Cancer Care West told the Democrat, “Fundraising events such as these are just so important not alone for the money they raise but for the increased awareness they bring to the table.”
Grainne McGettigan of Cancer Care West thanked everyone for their continued support over the years, “It is important that we support these local organisations - nearly a third of the users in Inish Aoibheann in Galway at any given time are from Donegal.
