One of Donegal’s most famous women, Máire Rua Gallagher, Bunbeg celebrated her 90th Birthday at the weekend. Her family organised a big party for her in Teach Hiudaí Beag, Bunbeg on Saturday night.
Among those present was her nephew, Terence Gallagher who traveled all the way from New York to be present for the big celebrations. Máire went to work in Glasgow at the tender age of fifteen years and she spent many years as a bus conductress there.
Máire’s love of football and music is legendary and is a life long supporter of Glasgow Celtic. She is also an ardent fan of DanielO’Donnell, who was sadly unable to be present at the party. She has been featured in many television programmes as well as programmes on Raidió na Gaeltachta and Highland Radio.
A huge crowd attended her party which went on into the small hours. She still travels to concerts throughout the country and is well known for her energy and great spirit. Roll on the 100th Máire.
