It was a very busy weekend for Ballyshannon Rugby Club, with matches for the youth section, and an exciting evening out for some of the U-12 squad.
Saturday morning saw the U-14 and U-18 squads setting off for Clones to play Cavan RFC. Both home squads were fielding good numbers, and expectations were high. Add to that the superb facilities at Clones, and a dry, even sunny morning, and all was set for a super morning of rugby. Which we had, two exciting and well matched games. The standard of rugby was excellent, and it is just a shame that the Ballyshannon lads ended up the losers. However, there were some wonderful periods of play and superb and well worked tries for both Ballyshannon teams.
Jamie Dorrian and James McGonigle scored for Ballyshannon U-18s, and Cian Barden and Richard Mulcahy scored for the U-14 team, both tries converted by Cian Barden.
As ever, coaches Clinton Morrow and Simon Foster were pleased with how their teams delivered on the day.
Whilst the youth teams were busy in Cavan, the mini section was busy with their usual Saturday morning training session at the Lakeside. Newcomers are always welcome to this, we have U-8, U-10 and U-12 teams.
The U12 team were invited to play during half-time in the Ulster v Exeter Chiefs match at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast. They played Ballymoney in the half time interval. Coaches Simon Foster and Richard O'Loughlin were delighted with how the boys played, and tries were scored by Joseph McGloin and Mark Fisher.
