People from across the county are invited to take part in ‘Thuras Colm Cille’ which takes place in Gleann Cholm Cille on June 9.

Those who walk the path which will cover some of the most historic scenes in south Donegal can choose to undergo the journey without any footwear.

The historical pilgrimage will focus predominantly on Saint Colm Cille.

The walk, which is 5 kilometres long, will begin at Eaglais Naomh Columba at around 12am on Monday. Along the scenic route, pilgrims will see 15 stones that date back to the fifth century.

Paddy ‘Beag’ Mac Giolla Easbuic will be the guide on the day.

He said: “It’s a wonderful walk. I advise anyone who is coming along to bring their cameras because some of the scenery is just breathtaking,” he said.

During the walk, people will stop beside the fifteenth century rocks and circle them and pray a number of times.

A number of people will chose to walk the spiritual journey on Sunday night at twelve o’clock before the Monday event.

“It is a lovely journey and it is well worth making it,” Paddy said.
