St. Eunan’s College in Letterkenny is running its first art exhibition outside the school.
The exhibition of work by 29 fifth and sixth year students opened at An Grianán Theatre last week.
It is the first time the theatre has hosted an exhibition of art by school students.
In the collection student’s have come up with their own interpretations of art masterpieces.
Art teacher Gareth Nee said the idea of the exhibition was to give the students the experience of working towards an exhibition in public. Each student researched famous artists and their masterpieces before producing their work. “They had to choose a piece of work by famous artist and give their own little twist to it which involved their own interests or passions,” he said.
“They were very enthusiastic and it was a bit of a change to do something in the public domain. Hopefully it gives them a great learning experience that by putting in some effort they get great reward and praise.”
The exhibition runs until February 23rd.
