Michael Murphy continued his prolific early season form with another virtuoso performance as Dublin City University defeated Queen’s University in the Sigerson Cup today.
The Donegal captain scored nine points, five of which came from play, in the 0-17 to 0-9 win at the DCU Sportsground. DCU followed up last weekend’s preliminary round success against University of Limerick with another victory and can now look forward to a quarter-final meeting with University College Dublin next Thursday.
Michael Boyle, the Termon goalkeeper, was not allowed to play as he and Cork midfielder Aidan Walsh failed in their appeal to the DRA. The duo were high-profile casualties of a new ruling made by the GAA’s Higher Education Board last October.
That ruling stipulates that players have studied for six years or taken more than two colleges courses, are unable to play football or hurling at third level.
Elsewhere, Owen Ward from Gaoth Dobhair was part of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology team that lost 1-12 to 0-7 against Cork Institute of Technology.
