Barry McNamee is looking forward to getting back into the groove with Derry City after failing to land himself a deal at Nottingham Forest.
The Ramelton native was invited on a week-long trial at the Championsihp club last month and while a move failed to materialise, McNamee is more than happy to have earned the experience.
Former Derry City teammate Stephen McLaughlin, who was on the books of Finn Harps for two seasons until 2010, made the switch the City Ground earlier this month.
“It was a great experience going over to Nottingham for the week,” 20-year-old McNamee said. “The change in managers at the time I’m sure didn’t help my cause any but I’m not disappointed that a move didn’t happen I’m just looking forward to the start of the season now with Derry City and, hopefully, I can get another chance to shine.”
The Letterkenny Institute of Technology student was not stung by the disappointment of not getting kept on in Nottingham and McNamee would be keen to try his luck across the water again.
“Maybe if there’s more interest in me in the future I’ll get another chance to get that dream move, he said. “Experiencing the full-time professional set-up makes you more determined to make it. And knowing that I could fit in and play at that level makes me more determined to go out and get more games under my belt and get the experience.
