Milford man Simms honoured

Richard Simms from Milford a member of Finn Valley A.C. has been honoured by European athletics. The award recognises and celebrates the service to athletics given by a coach who has demonstrated excellence in coaching and made a valuable contribution in other ways.

Forty top class coaches from Europe were rewarded with their contribution including four from the UK. Simms is the only Irish born coach to be honoured. Ricky, a graduate of U.U.J is the coach to double European Champion Mo Farah and from his London base where he is a director of Pace Sports Management works closely also with a number of African athletes. Although Mo Farah is European Champion, Ricky also coaches womens 10,000m champion, Linet Masai, as well as Vivian Cheryuiot, womens 5,000m champion, both athletes winning in Berlin at the World Championships in 2009. Simms is also the agent of a certain Usain Bolt.

Ricky or Richard which he is known as in Donegal has a level 3 coaching qualification in which he got in Ireland and is known world wide for his coaching expertise, this award showing recognition of the work he has done to date.
