Ollie Doherty's Termon won the All-County Division Three on Saturday night

TERMON’S footballers clinched another piece of silverware to complete a memorable season when they defeated Downings to win Division Three of the All-County League on Saturday.

Termon 3-8

Downings 2-6

Player-manager Paddy McDaid’s side had already swopped for the Junior Comórtas na Gaeltachta All-Ireland title in Gweedore in June and then won the Intermediate championship earlier this month.

Junior champions Downings, though, have had a decent enough season themselves and goals from Christy Connaghan, Aidan Sweeney and Daireann Gibson sealed Termon’s latest piece of silverware.

Connaghan opened the scoring with a point and then soon shot past Lee McBride in the Downings goal. Points from Gibson, Francie Friel and Kevin McDaid followed before Downings scored a penalty when Patrick McGroddy sent Michael Boyle the wrong way. Termon, though, fought back into the game thanks to points from Sweeney, Friel and Connaghan. Sweeney’s goal put Termon in firm control before another point, this time from Ollie Doherty.

Shane McCafferty was taken from the substitutes’ bench for Downings and he scored a fine point, while Gary McClafferty and McGroddy also scored at the end of the half, leaving Termon in front on a double-score margin, 2-6 to 1-3.

After the break, Francis Friel for Termon and Michael Bradley exchanged points before Gibson found the net again for Termon.

Downings were beaten at this stage but did strike back late in the game with five points on the spin with McGroddy, Danny McBride and Gary McClafferty all on the mark

This put the game beyond doubt but Downings were not to be overawed by the Donegal 2012 Intermediate champions lead, and with Patrick McGroddy, Danny McBride and Gary McClafferty all contributing.
