Trevor Scanlon has this week been named as the new Letterkenny Rovers manager.

The Sligo native will officially take up his position in June next year when his current contract as a Community Development Officer with the FAI comes to an end.

The former Finn Harps and Sligo Rovers defender will succeed Eamonn McConigley, who stepped down as manager at the end of the season after five years in charge during which time he won three trophies including a second Ulster Senior League title for the club.

In the interim period, Anthony Gorman – who manages Rovers’ U-19 League of Ireland team – will take charge of team affairs alongside Liam O’Donnell.

“We are absolutely delighted that Trevor has agreed to come on board with us,” said chairman Dessie Kelly. “He is a top quality coach, will bring tremendous skills to the job, and has an outstanding knowledge of the game. His appointment will compliment the excellent work already being carried out at the club from U-19 level and below. We are looking forward immensely to working with him.”Scanlon was a player with the club when they won their first Ulster Senior League title back in 2005 and was appointed manager when they first played in the Eircom Under-21 League in 2006 and 2007 before taking up his FAI post.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to work at a club I have great respect for and I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
