McNamee gets trial at Forest

Ramelton native Barry McNamee will next week go on a week-long trial with two-time European Cup winners Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old enjoyed an excellent season at Derry City, playing in central midfield in the FAI Cup final win over St Patrick’s Athletic earlier this month.

Another Donegal man was at the City Ground last week. Former Finn Harps winger Stephen McLaughlin, from Doagh Island in Inishowen, was on trial at the Championship outfit, who are managed by Sean O’Driscoll.

“The trial went well as far as I am concerned and the Forest manager said I had done well, there’s not much more I can do now and I suppose the next move will depend on any talks between the two clubs,” McLaughlin said.

“I think I acquitted myself well over there and having seen the standard, I feel I could play at that level. It was a step-up from what I am used to, the pace was a lot quicker in training but I didn’t feel out of place at all.

“They have a good squad there with a lot of internationals, players like Simon Cox, but I did well in anything I had to do,”

McLaughlin played for Finn Harps until 2010 and spent the last two seasons at Derry City.
