McGuinness looking forward to Kerry tie
Jim McGuinness
DONEGAL manager Jim McGuinness insists his Ulster champions will relish their All-Ireland quarter-final date with Kerry on Sunday.
The sides have never met before in Championship football. And although many plaudits have staked the claim of Donegal following their 2-18 to 0-13 win over Down in the provincial final last Sunday, the 36-times All-Ireland winners will provide a stiffer challenge than Donegal have ever faced.
“It’s the type of draw players in the squad would’ve been looking forward to their whole careers,” McGuinness said. “Kerry in Croke Park in the championship is something that has never happened before and it’s something we can look forward to.
“It’s obviously a very tough game for us but it would’ve been the same if it was Kildare or Laois. We knew it was only one from three and we’d a fair idea it would’ve been them so it’s just another team we have to play. It’s just a matter of trying to get to grips with it and get our plans in place and travel there with a bit of confidence.
“We’ll not get too hung up on who we have to play. It’s about ourselves and getting our own performance right as usual. Kerry have huge pedigree and will be very hard to beat. It’s a great draw for the supporters and I would feel myself it’s a great draw for the players as it’s something they’ve never experienced before in championship.”
