McGowan runs into the record books

Tír Chonaill AC’s Kate McGowan ran her name into the record books after storming to victory in the under 16 girls 80m hurdles into a strong headwind of -2.5m per second in a Celtic record time of 11.67 seconds.
Her record came as Athletics Ireland celebrated an overall team victory at the Celtic Games on Saturday at Aberdeen Sports Village in Scotland which involve young athletes from all Ulster, Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
Windy conditions did not stand in the way of the Irish team who performed outstandingly, breaking four Celtic Games records and winning comfortably ahead of Wales, Ulster and Scotland with and overall score of 179 points.
Fellan McGuigan (Finn Valley AC) dominated in the boys under 18 hammer winning with a throw of 67.39m, along with did Matthew Stockton (North Down) taking the under 18 boys javelin winning well clear of competitors with a distance of 55.91m.
