McDaid back at Glenswilly
Mick Murphy and Gary McDaid helped Glenswilly to the Raidi na Gaeltachta SFC in 2011 and the pair will be chairman and manager respectively next season
RETURNING Glenswilly manager Gary McDaid maintains his club have a “massive workload” to get back to their former glories.
McDaid was ratified as the senior manager on Friday night and will be joined for the upcoming season by assistant Johnny McGinley, with Brendan Walsh and Michael Canning as selectors. They succeed Manus McFadden, who couldn’t prevent the side from Pairc Naomh Columba from getting relegated from the top-flight of the All-County League last season.
“We have a massive workload ahead as we’re not exactly in a good place in Division Two,” McDaid said. “We were in Division One for five years and it will be heard to get back up there again.
“But we will start collective training again next month and there’s a decent group of players there. For me, it’s a massive honour to get the chance to manage my own club again and we’re looking forward to getting back at it.”
McDaid was joint-manager of Glenswilly with John McGinley, Johnny’s father, for one season when they won the Raidió na Gaeltachta SFC for a first time in 2011 with victory over St Michael’s. Mick Murphy is the new chairman of the club.
