Jim McGuinness is busy in his new post in Glasgow this morning as he begins a new chapter of his sporting life with Celtic.

But despite his new post, the Donegal boss (pictured) was also busy preparing for the new season for Donegal’s Gaelic footballers at the weekend when he brought his squad together for the first time since the All-Ireland win over Mayo. The squad met for a briefing in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny, on Saturday morning where plans were put in place for the close season training, with players given their programmes for the next few months.

Nearly all the Donegal panel were present (the Four Masters players are in the US but were due back yesterday). Plans are also in place for the presentation of the All-Ireland medals at a special banquet in the Mount Errigal on Saturday, December 8th while the squad will depart for their team holiday in Dubai shortly after Christmas before returning home to take part in the Dr. McKenna Cup with an opening game away to Fermanagh on Wednesday, 9th January.

For McGuinness, the Celtic odyssey begins today and the Glenties man has already been provided with accommodation and transportation in Glasgow’s West End. He will begin his work with Youth Academy of the Scottish club today and the relationship between the All-Ireland winning manager and the club is likely to reawaken the great interest that the club holds with the people of Donegal.

Relegation battle

Meanwhile, in the club scene in Donegal, the battle for survival in the All County League Division One is down to the last few weeks.

Glenswilly and Gaoth Dobhair, thanks to wins over Dungloe and St. Eunan’s yesterday, gave themselves another bite at the cherry. They must meet next weekend and the losers will be relegated while the winners will have to travel to Dungloe for the final relegation play-off battle.
