Haran praises Kavanagh

Man of the match John Haran was a relieved man at the end of the game in Towney and felt that his side had recovered from their poor display the previous week.
“I don’t know if we were arrogans, but we were totally complacent and it was the worst display in my 18 years involved with St. Eunan’s. There could have been only one reaction and whether it was good enough to win, we didn’t know, but thank God we played a bit better and got the result but it’s only half time,” said John.
“It was do or die or else you were out of the championship,” said John, who revealed that he was not happy that he was not selected to start last week.
“I was very disappointed last week at not being picked. I don’t know why I was left out, but that’s up to the management. But Rory Kavanagh came in this week and took a grip of the situation and took the training on Tuesday and Thursday night and really got the boys reeled up and the boys listened to Rory and we got a good reaction to it.
“Kevin (Rafferty) was really good, a smart player. The ‘oul finger is giving him bother, but when your back’s to the wall, you have to call on these fellas. You can’t have them sitting on the bench any more. You can’t take any chances and he had to go in there and he had a good game.
“The celebrations last week wouldn’t have helped Rory, but he was much better this week.
“We were up for it, but we had to be. You had to have a reaction after last week and we got off to a good enough start and Kilcar came back into it before half time and at the start of the second half. The questions were asked of us again and lucky Ross got the ‘oul goal which set us up nicely and Mark McGowan with them frees, it was a knife into Kilcar every time they went over the bar and it kept us that wee bit ahead. We’re looking forward now to the midweek game,” said John.
