Con Halpin - one of the St Eunan’s young stars of the 1940s and ‘50s - has been inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
Con was a member of the first ever St Eunan’s championship team back in 1948 and a member of a star-studded side that halted Gaoth Dobhair’s march for a historic first five-in-a-row of senior championships.
A man of many firsts, he was also a member of the first Donegal team to play in Croke Park in a competitive game, when he lined out in goals against Cork in the 1952 National Football League semi-final.
A Lagan Cup winner with Donegal in 1952, he is the holder of two Donegal senior football championships - 1948 and ‘56 - two senior leagues (Democrat Cup) - 1952 and ‘54 and two Donegal minor championships - 1946 and ‘47. He also played Sigerson Cup football with UCD and was also an accomplished basketball player during his time at university in Dublin.
He qualified as a teacher and taught for a short time in St Eunan’s College before emigrating to London where he continued his teaching profession and resides to this day.
In keeping with his theme of a man of firsts he is the first St Eunan’s player to have left these shores to be inducted into the O’Donnell Park Hall of Fame.
The ceremony took place at the club’s annual presentation night at a function in the Orchard Inn in Letterkenny on Friday night.
