Gold for Quigley in Lithuania

Finn Valley boxer Jason Quigley was celebrating gold medal success at the Algirdas Socikas Multi-Nations boxing tournament in Kaunas in Lithuania yesterday evening.

The Donegal fighter was the only Irish gold medal winner in a strong nine-man Irish team at the tournament. He defeated his Lithunian opponent Tadas Ziukas having fought three fights in three days.

In his opening fight on Thursday he defeated Mantas Balciaskas from Lithuania 11-3 and followed that with 16-6 semi-final win over Artjom Fjodorov from Estonia.

“I’m delighted,” Quigley said yesterday. “I came to this same tournament last year and was beaten in the first fight so at least it shows I’m learning from that and concentrating on each opponent. When you come to these tournaments you never get an easy fight but I said coming here this year I’m not leaving empty-handed.”
