Gweedore United F.C. held a 7-a-side Over 35’s tournament at the weekend at Carrickboyle to remember a former player and great friend to the club the Late Frankie Pat Gallagher.
This tournament proved to be a great success and seen players and supporters from both the soccer and gaelic world come together to celebrate the life of Frankie Pat Gallagher in style.
Eleven teams from all over the country including former team mates from Gweedore United F.C., Keadue Rovers F.C. and CLG Naomh Mhúire were all well represented on the day and old friends from as far as Dublin, Laghey, Kilmacrennan, Termon and other local teams turned up to celebrate their friend on this great occassion
The day began with 3 groups being played on 3 pitches, two semi finals with eventual winners being Na Fir G who beat Tessie’s Bar in the final following a close contest.
Gweedore United F.C. would like to thank the Gallagher and Duffy families, the teams, the 3 referees on the day and supporters that turned out and everyone who helped out on the day to make it a great success and hopefully look forward to making this an annual event in memory of a true friend the late Frankie Pat Gallagher 1963-2011.
