Four Masters Club Chairman Sean Dunnion who has confirmed he will be a candidate for the Donegal GAA Co. Board chair

Four MASTERS’ Sean Dunnion has confirmed that he will be a candidate for chairman of the Donegal GAA County Board when Convention is held in the Abbey Hotel on Sunday, 16th December.

Dunnion has been nominated on an annual basis in recent years but has declined, but now that the post is open with P J McGowan completing his three-year term, the Donegal Town man is going to seek the post.

“I have been giving it a lot of thought or the last week or two. It has been in the back of mind for a couple of years but after getting a lot of encouragement over the last week or 10 days, I have decided to let my name go forward for the chair.

“I informed my club on Wednesday night that I was interested in the chairman or vice-chairman position, but having thought it about more over the weekend, I have now decided to go for the chair,” said Sean, speaking to the Donegal Democrat/Donegal People’s Press last night.

Dunnion has been chairman of his club for the last seven years and was secretary for a year before that while he has also acted as PRO for the club.

“Our AGM is on 28th December but I feel it is time for a new challenge,” said Sean.

The entry of Dunnion into the field will make for a very interesting Convention as he will be felt as a very strong contender.

Current officers Charlie Cannon (vice-chairman) and Mick McGrath (Children’s officer) have already confirmed that they will seek the post of chairman, while Anthony Molloy has yet to make up his mind whether he will stay in the race.

It is also learned that the outgoing chairman, PJ McGowan, will be seeking the post of Central Council delegate, which will mean a vote against sitting officer Niall Erskine.

There are also contests guaranteed for the vice-chairman and PRO positions. Edward Molloy and Jim Quinn are confirmed as contenders for the PRO post along with outgoing Maire Graham.
