The LYIT side who won so convincingly at the RSC against Waterford IT last Wednesday are in action again tomorrow

ATHLONE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, managed by league of Ireland goalscoring legend Michael O Connor will provide the opposition for Letterkenny IT as they square off with the midlanders twice in eight days as Niall McGonagle’s side chase double success in both league and cup competitions.

First up is the quarter-final of the CFAI Cup which will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4pm on the LYIT campus. LYIT then face Athlone in the CUFL League semi-final the following Wednesday at McSharry Park, Sligo at 7pm.

LYIT will be vying to reach their third CFAI Cup semi-final in as many years. Their most recent cup win was in 2006 when goals from Kilmacrennan’s Johnny Gallagher and Convoy’s John Doherty saw them triumph 2-0 against Colaiste Stiofain Naofa in Cork. Donegal goalkeeper Michael Boyle was man of the match recipient on that occasion.

Last week LYIT travelled to Waterford and came away with a resounding 3-0 victory against Waterford IT in the last eight of the CUFL. The goal scorers were Oisin McMenamin, Davitt Walsh and Luke O’Farrell. The centreback partnership of Mark Harkin and Josh Mailey were again outstanding for the Donegal team in that match. O’Farrell was Tommy Bonner of Finn Harps also impressed in the midfield for LYIT.

For this week’s cup last eight encounter, LYIT will have to plan without influential Letterkenny Rovers midfielder Oisin Grant, who is unavailable as he is due in Dublin for an interview for a J1 visa the same day.

Grant plans to work in the United States for the summer and the appointment cannot be switched. Institute player Johnny Logue from Milford is expected to benefit in the reshuffling of the pack.

The Letterkenny squad for Wednesday is as follows: Ciaran Gallagher (Finn Harps), Lee McFadden (Fanad United), Johnny Logue (Institute), Barry McNamee (Derry City), Mark Harkin (Letterkenny Rovers) Josh Mailey, (Letterkenny Rovers), Tommy Bonner (Finn Harps), Luke O’Farrell (Drumkeen United),Paul McVeigh (Finn Harps), Oisin McMenamin (Kildrum Tigers), Davitt Walsh (Institute), Tony McNamee (Derry City), Aidan McLaughlin (Bonagee United, Dylan Ramsay (Cappry Rovers), Prionsias Forker (Keadue Rovers) Ryan Mangan (Salthill Devon).
