Donegal GAA referees under spotlight of Revenue Commissioners

Red card for referees

GAA referees in Donegal and all over Ireland are to become the latest target for the Revenue Commissioners.

The GAA in Croke Park have been in touch with the Donegal Co. Board on the issue and guidelines have been set down.

There has been much condemnation of the move, especially by referees, who feel that it is going to make recruiting referees even more difficult.

“It simply is not going to work in a big county like Donegal. Do they not realise that referees in Donegal travel long distances to games and with this system, with the price of petrol and the cost of running a car in this day and age, referees will not able to afford to officiate at games,” said one referee, who did not wish to be named.
