Banbridge travelled to the Holmses on Saturday morning and were not there to make up the numbers. The rain over the last few days and indeed during the match made for very difficult playing conditions.

Donegl Town U-15 5

Banbridge 10

The first 20 minutes was end-to-end play with both sides threatening to score only to be denied by excellent defending from both sides.

Banbridge opened the scoring when they scored a try in the corner. The conversion was missed. Donegal now put some good passes together that saw Tom O’Grady go on a looping run up the right wing with Darragh O’Donnell scoring the off-load in the corner. Tom narrowly missed the conversion. Donegal exerted great pressure on the Bann defence but could not score.

Half time score Donegal 5 points Banbridge 5 points.

Banbridge continued to attack the Donegal defence. A wayward kick out of the Donegal defence gifted the Banbridge number 13 with a try in the corner, which again was not converted. Donegal spent the final 15 minutes of the game camped in the Banbridge half and they could not get that elusive try to tie the match.

Overall this was a very sporting match played by two evenly matched sides. Better rucking and fewer mistakes tipped the scales in Bann’s favour.

This was Donegal’s final game in the Ulster Premier League and they finished with 5 wins and 5 losses. Some of the losses were by 5 or less points.

They finished middle of their League table. This is very encouraging for the players and coaches. Donegal now look forward to the Cup where they have Ballymena and Inishowen in their section.
