Donegal Town U-15 RFC win away in Ballymena
The Donegal Town RFC U-15 side that drew with Banbridge at the weekend
Donegal made the long trip to Ballymena on Saturday morning to take on the local side in the group stages of the Ulster League Cup.
Ballymena 5
Donegal Town 37
The weather was perfect for rugby. The last time these two sides met in the Premier League in the first week of December they played a thrilling match with the visitors just shading the home side 19 points to 17 points.
Ballymena put great pressure on the Donegal defence for the first ten minutes of the game with no success. Donegal worked the ball steadily up the field and were rewarded when Patrick Forde crashed over in the corner for their first try. Conor Conneely was next to score for Donegal when he also crashed over the line in the corner.
Alex Boyd was next to score after some fine passing from the Donegal backs. Conor Conneely scored the conversion. Donegal at this point of the game enjoyed a period of dominance and were rewarded with three more tries from Jack Sweeney, Conor Conneely and Patrick Forde leaving the score at half time 32-0.
The second half was a much tighter affair with both sides attacking and defending with great vigour. Donegal scored one more try through scrum half Gareth Lipsett and Ballymena got in for a try in the corner towards the end of the game.
This was a good performance from the Donegal side that now look forward to a home game next Saturday morning against Inishowen RFC. Please come along and support the lads at the Holmses at 11 am.
